I was told that a lot of the pirates are actually unemployed coast guard?

I'm no expert on this but this would make sense would it not?

I'm sure there was a Radio 4 article a few years back, saying that trained Marines off Africas coast where hijacking and robbing ships.
Using Military vessels and training provide by the British Forces,
Obviously these skills were not intended for this purpose, but sure came in handy.

A few years ago Hart Security had a contract to train the Somali Fisheries Protection. Unfortunately things did not work out.

A former Somali member trained by Hart was interviewed for a documentary.As he said as there was no work and as he had been well trained to board vessels at sea the natural progression was to move over to be a pirate.
