Hi guys and gals,
Im on the scrounge again. I have done the manufacturers training in the FAST 1 IO kit and have bought the training set up. I have asked the company for a powerpoint presentation in the use of the kit but with no luck. I asked around and although several guys have said they have a relivent powerpoint, but i still have not manaaged to get hold of a copy. If anyone has a FAST 1 IO powerpoint could they please email me at kdmedical@hotmail.co.uk Im not to concerned if its the older version that needs the extraction tool (you dont need it on the new version). I will be adding the FAST 1 IO onto the remote/ hostile medics course. many thanks in advance KTM |

Agreed , Kev... I also wasn't aware of the FAST 1 being available for lower limb usage...
One other device that I was aware of for intraosseous was the Bone Injection Gun (BIG) which can be used on the lower limbs for Tibial Tuberosity. However in general the BIG is not a patch on the FAST 1 but maybe a lot more useful in the field as it is quick and easy to use and reload... around 60 secs for Tibial entry. A peadiatric version is also available. |

I wonder if you are thinking of the EZ IO, which is fine to use at the head of tibia. This product is gaining ground in the civilian pre-hospital community. The only drawback being that it is very painful to infuse fluid through the EZ IO.
In the hostile area / tactical medicine community, FAST1 is preferred because regardless of the type of incident, you are almost always going to be able to use the sternum as an infusion site, it is well protected by body armour. I would expect some development quite soon from all companies concerned, as we have seen in the haemorrhage control arena. I think there is a long way to go in the development of IO products also. Hope this helps, John DMI (UK) |

For the guys who have emailed me for a picture of the FAST 1 here you go.
The actual device is the burgundy coloured item on the right. The target patch and protective dome is on the left. KTM Last edited by KEVTHEMED; 15-07-2008 at 02:56 PM. |
