Hi, Just recently left the army as a CMT. Now training FAW to civvies, but really want more again. I'm looking at remote medic type of training to get back into it. Also would like direction on medic within CP world... Have friends already doing the CP side. But would like more guidance of anyone willing to share there knowledge on the following:

1. Best med qual to gain in UK for remot e med work
2. best med qual to gain in US for remote med work
3. Are there many female medics within CP world
4 If I did do CP ideal is ronin sa really the best

Quite broad questions but any info shared will be most helpful, thanks

As im sure the majority of the real experts on this site will tell you there are few vacancies for female CPOs on Psd teams but UK wise theres loads of oPportunities.
Ronin are outstanding as a PSD training entity but by their own admission dont really concentrate on the UK/ PPO market.
Your skill base - once civilianised- makes you even more marketable.
Im sure the marketing experts will follow on from this and give you lots of 'we can' 'we do' 'our course' '££' type information about their companies. In the UK train where the work is- London. Avoid paintball/airsoft fixated PSD training companies- Weapon training requires real weapons - even SF need realtime refreshers .

For the UK market, do a seperate Driving Course- 14 days sia should only ever teach you the BASICS beware of the 14 day just add water instant expert in everything promises. Med skills are a 4 day minimum add on not a gap filler durng the course- yours sound like they have been civilianised already. Counter Surveillance is a must in UK- another add on course. professional development should include at least a weekend in London finding your way around - the client gets here and expects you as the 'Brit' to know everything. Its not widely admitted but UK work = glorified personal assistant who cant type. Train in LLandidno by all means dont expect many clients to go there ! - I can recommend a company that does weekend London familiarisation combined with London Driving skills for peanuts .

I am as they say done .

FurryJen,

Ok I'm not CP trained, but I am a ODP/Resus Officer, I'm hoping you were a CMT 1 in the Forces, you could do your Offshore Medics Course, there are many companies out there for this type of training or you could look up Emergency Response Services in Hereford, they provide all the IHCD qualifications. If you want any other help PM

regards

Thanks,

Still thinking forward then;

Please bare with me while I pick your brains more!

Would it be advisable to pass a remote medic course before carrying out any CP courses or as a rule would people chose to go down the medical route as an extra skill for employment purposes

Is it possible for recommendations for CP courses ran here in the UK that have good reputation for excellent training please

as i'm reasonably new to this very informative site-still working my way through it...

I would definately go down the Offshore Medics route. I did 3 yrs in Iraq doing CP then took time out to do my offshore medics cert and do a bit of work on the rigs etc... I came back after a year and I have found that with my CP/Hostile environment background coupled with my Medic background gave some good offers of work.
I work a 6 on 6 off rotation so in my downtime I do the odd bit of cover on the rigs and some training work for the odd company. I find this mix spot on as I tend to get itchy feet.
A bit of advice though. The Offshore medic side of things tends to pay equal if not more than the remote medic side of things in HE environments.. Also the risk factor is something to take into consideration. Come to Iraq/Afghanistan and you still have a good chance of getting topped. Go working offshore and to be honest your biggest risk of harm is eating too much!!
It all depends what you are after but with your Offshore ticket you will always find good well paid work... and it will give you a good qualification to take into the security side of things if you choose that line.
