Im sure this has been disgused on this forum at some point before but I cannot find it if it has.
Has anyone done MIRA 1/2? if so can you tell me if it was a worthwhile course and has it helpped you to progress with your med skills. Also on this subject any other med courses that are worth while. |

Yea I did it a couple years ago when I worked for them.Very good course for both trauma managment and primary health treatment pathways. You will learn a lot on it good instuctors with a great amount on knowledge in both fields. When I did it I was allready a qualified medic but did learn on it.
Problem you have now is unless you are allready a qualified medic the courses can be limited depending on the course provider as some of the more indepth courses ALS, MIMMS, PHTLS you have to be a registered paramedic.Try for your HSE First Aid at Work Instructor course then the city and guilds teaching quall. Both a bonus to get on the CV.Next prob now is keeping the skills updated as in regular medic to patient treatments especially with the primary health side which is 98% of most medics daily work. Hopefully this has helped a bit. |

Thanks Kev, I have previously done a CMT, First Responder, O2, Defib, Spinal
Immobilization/collers etc, vehicle extraction courses but unfortunately most were a in house thing so no accredited qualls been out of this line of work for about 3 years so im looking to get back into it. What would be the natural progression from MIRA? |

Hi Kev,
Good post mate. Getting the FAW and C & G is a great starter on the ladder. As you say, when you progress with the quals, the hardest part is keeping up the clinical competence and getting signed off on it. Ref the PHTLS course. It's open to current Paramedics, Technicans, EMTs, CMTs etc. Great course! Take it easy |
