Morning all,
bear with me first post and all but i think the title says it all. Bit of background and introduction first iam a serving commando medic lucky enough to have also been able to get SR Paramedic registration as well. Have got lots of operational experience with presently 3 Afghans (none of which were behind the wire in BSN or KDH), Telic 1 and 2 years NI from my time in the army before i saw the light. I have 7 years to pension so obviously would be extremely intrested in any advice and info that any of the blokes presently working in a medic capacity in this arena, offshore or in the remote role could give me. Have had a bit of experience working on rigs with the mob so have had the chance to chat with a couple of fellas who have taken the plunge looks like not a bad number but ? dead mans shoes, again any info gratefully accepted. Many thanks in advance Mark |

Congrats in getting your SR para whilst still in the forces, I can't comment on the CP medic front, but I'm sure some others will, the Offshore/Remote industry I believe is still good, but hard to break into, there are a few good agencies that really help newstarts, on the NHS and Private/Event work, I can comment on, there is loads of work, I currently turn more work down than I do ( I have a dayjob as well). If your interested in NHS work, there are quite a few companies providing NHS support ie providing RRV's and Ambulance's to trusts, they are covering all level of calls. Most NHS trusts also operate Flexi/Bank shift systems, maybe worth talking to your local trust. Event Work, again there are lots of companies that provide this, just like in any industry there are, good and bad. Pay rates, vary from £150 to £250 per day. If you need any other pointers, please feel free to pm me. Russ |

Cheers for getting back Russ
should have been a bit clearer as Iam already doing the Private work as part of my CPD presently round Pompey and Soton (actually did a RRV shift last night) and while i realise it is quite lucrative and helps pay for the holidays i dont know whether it will last for ever. Have also been looking at the immigrant repatriation flight stuff as well, pays well enough but again it appears to be feast or famine thanks again Mark |

My advice is stick the 7 years out and lock the pension in. The you have more flexibility with some small amount of security behind you.
Cheers, AJ |

No worries Mark, Glad your doing some private work, I have a colleague that works the flights, as you said feast or famine.
Personally I think your best bet, once you retire from the forces, is to get a trust position, perhaps not full time !, unless you fancy the sandpit or other remote work. Like any industry network network. Cheers Russ |
