To be honest most of what we teach on the Dog first aid courses is basically the same as human first aid. Some of the numbers are different and the anatomy is sort of turned through 90*. Yes we use a manikin for the CPR and nope it doesn’t have smelly breath, which is more than can be said for some of the students after a night on the beer. And just too really disappoint you, its mouth to nose not mouth to mouth.
I can recommend about 3 good books that are out there for dog first aid. Most are from the states and deal with hunting dogs, so a little on gunshots & environmental problems. If you would like the titles and publishers drop me a line.

Silly sort of question really but what level of training would you like? At the moment the students I am training range from pet owners and boarding kennel staff to game keepers and site security handlers.
I have a basic course outline that gets added to depending on the groups perceived needs. This seems to me a golden opportunity to create a first aid course for dog handlers. Before some organisation tries to water it down as has happened with the FAAW course over the last few years.
I would be interested in hearing your views (after all your potential customers)

I was thinking about a course designed for private dog handler contractor, working in hostile environments....Iraq,afghan and other lovely places...etc. as was said earlier in this thread by johng990, a dog is not excatley high on the medvac list when injured, and im sure other handlers would have an opinion that the animal is replaceable and they would just get another one to fill the job...but I would like to be armed with as much training as I can get in order to say that at least I did everything I could.

Cheers
DH
