Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows of, or recommends any courses for canine trauma training. I know of a couple places that have the basic first aid courses, ie: ur dog chocking on a piece of bone...etc, but Im looking for something a little more in depth and geared more towards hostile trauma scenarios, ie: gun shot, knife punctures, broken bones...etc. just wanted to run it by and see what you guys can come up with.

Thanks in advance

My Dad did this course through the police (being a dog handler). I doubt they deliver it to civi though but if you have any police contacts they may point you in the right direction?

Really sorry I cant be of any other help.

Thanks, its an idea, but like u said they dont usually give it to civi's, and I would like a certificate or an official qualification I can throw on my CV.

Cheers

Just a quick google search if you're 100% stuck.

Canine Emergency First Aid Course for Dog Handlers

They offer 'Wounds, blood loss and shock' training which could be applicable.

The USA is the place for this sort of course. There is a very short chapter on it in the book 'Tactical Medicine' which can be found on Amazon.

Best of luck.

Could be good, Obviously in a hostile environment casevac for a dog is pretty low on the priority list....... I have done plenty of Dog First Aid, most of it is the same or similar to humans, but I've never done cpr on a dog manikin.!!!!! Wonder if they have realistic breath smell too.??

Not exactly security related, but have a look on the NOBS (National Oeganisation for Beaters and Pickers-Up) website. they do a lot with working dogs (gun dogs) and I know their resident vet runs courses of dog first aid, not sure if the info is on the site or in their forum but they def do a course.

nice one John....well if they dont have the realistic breath, all you need to do is insert a couple of liver flavoured treats...that should do the trick...lol
