    Aston,

The only way you can do the longmoor course is by being in full time policing roles of the armed forces, TA RMP Reserves may get used but that is if they have passed the cp course when they were full time, whoever this Longmoor instructor is (Can you provide a name?) and why he's saying an RMR guy passed the course is completely fictitous to my knowledege, he may have gone through the driving course, i'm currently co located with an RMP attatched to the troop, he was at Longmoor for years and he doesnt know of anyone outside the policing environment to go on the course....The only exceptions are saudi's, Norweigans Etc who pay over the odds to do the course and the majority are rubbish and get an attendance certificate rather than a pass certificate, as for whoever it was who said special branch do the course, thats also false, they attend longmoor to do there own training away from CPU, why would they do that course when they have their own, they enjoy watching the longmoor guys as were allowed to go onto 'automatic' (Which theyre not) and we use proper rounds (They use less lethal versions!!) and when they bring a VIP into theatre theyre more than happy for us to BG their VIP as we know the ground and have better contact drills than they have,

Sorry if this shatters your dreams mate.......Transfer to the Corps/troop, it's only 30 weeks of training plus 21 weeks of police training or if youre really, really desperate join the RMP!!

Stay low, move fast out there mate

    DK

Hi there, yes i believe its true you normally have to serve out your probation at a large nuclear site in Berkshire. The job there is armed guarding, patrols and static. Very little police type work. After the 2 years, you can apply for other stations or specialist groups, but be aware its not easy to specialise and can take time due to small units and lack of oppertunity. There are some good units, dogs, CID, divisional support groups, escort group (convoys), and 2 operational support units, north and south, who support the forces other units at times of need, such as protest activity at defence bases.. All very professional. Dockyards have police boats (marine units).
The MOD Police (MDP) now do international policing (eg Kosovo) in small numbers and by volunteers. The force are also taking on some Gas turbine power stations in an armed guarding role.
I dont think you can be a reservist if you joined, but that would have to be clarified.
Also as a matter of interest, the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) are actively recruiting at the moment. They provide an armed presence at nuclear Power stations, and do a very similar job to the MOD Police. They are a smaller force, have a look at their website.

Evening Aston, You in the Corps at the moment, which unit are you in?? At present i don't know of any RMR in the troop, I'll endevour to check with my boss as to whether you can do this, who's the RMR who passed the last course?? At present our red cap boss is very keen on getting us on CP tours, which is great, however..... Past Bosses and probably future Bosses will not be so keen as it leaves us over stretched for Op's such as the up-coming Herrick 9 deployment!!! As I've said mate i'll try and get some more info and get back to you.
