In the industry we used to call it 'Dope on a Rope' and now I suppose we must add 'Pooch in a Parachute'
I can just see the 2nd hand sale sign: German Shepherd for sale - Para and HALO trained - one owner: the Hereford Hooligans - temperament: Killer instinct, not to good with kids - works well with cameras, LAW, semtex and Apache helicopters - No time wasters please. |

LOL..what a load of Shite.....it would never happen the way it says in the news article, they make it sound like the dogs would be on their own performing the task single handed...well as much as I think german shepherds are smarter then most oxygen wasters on this planet...it would be highly unlikely.
But having done K9 training with the german SEK, I have performed rappelling and helicopter deployment with my dog, and have seen video and been told that they do Halo ops with the dogs....but WITH the handler as a team....the dog is strapped securely to the operators chest in a special rig and fitted with a special doggy O2 mask and then deployed with a other members of a team...really its just another way to acces a bad guys location ..say if it was a remote location and u wanted that real element of surprise...but it is done in witha team and the dog is deployed with the handler...apparently the germans have practiced the scenario for a few years now, but as far as I know they havent used it on for an actual deployment. Maybe thats where they got the idea from...so anyways thats my 2 cents worth.. cheers |

No worries Daemon, it does seem a bit far fetched but its nothing new mate. Dogs were Parachuted into the front line during World War 2 (Dope on a Rope) that label? because they (the dogs) could hardly throw a rigging lines rear or front eh?...
Hereford along with the School, Boscombe and JATE pioneered Operational Tandem in the late 80's whereby, a jump master can tandem a specialist and their kit... A colleague of mine who now runs a Parachute School in the midlands actually made a jump with two lightweight females with the Rig, (properly attired of course) I'll leave that to the imagination so as not to upset the Sisters... and of course the advertisements soon hit the scene...SKYDIVE 'With A Friend' |
