When referring to Bullpup I was answering the original message in this thread, as I had misread it I had thought he may have seen a SCAR but its not a bullpup design sa he had stated. As for the SCAR I have seen pictures and footage of US SF carrying what certainly appears to be a SCAR. Could have been promotional pics I suppose.

Hi Guys. The Manchester teams have recently changed weapons, but its not anything that you will have seen (yet) in the UK. I'm not at liberty to say exactly which model they are using but it does have a folding stock and it isn't a bullpup. I am sure that someone will snap a photo of them soon. I had a few rounds with one a while back and needless to say they are a very handy bit of kit. Hopefully they won't encumber them with loads of junk as they are very neat in 'clean' mode. There is even a leg holster for one handed use. Enough said for now.

I may be a bit dense here but are you lads really happy with being issued high velocity weapons for what, in the majority of cases will be very close quarter combat in a built environment with bucket loads of civvies knocking around?
Don't get me wrong the police need guns (after all we cannot dis-invent them) but this kit you are being issued will probably land some poor sod right in the shit! I mean you lot got crucified for shooting an electrician who you genuinely thought was going to blow up a tube train full of innocent people. The litegation (and prosecution) legal teams will have a bloody field day with any of you that are unfortunate enough to have a fatal shoot through. I have shot a can of coke (unopened) in the range before now to see what happens (with 5.56) from 50-60m. It did not move (well only by a few mm or topple. I have also seen what these rounds can penetrate clean through (including brick, layers of mud, wood metal etc) at fire power demos. This 5.56mm kit has no place in built up areas for police work. It will be you guys who carry the can, your boss won't stand next to you in the dock! Would you not have preferred a nice new H&K chambered for a 10mm round? |

the type of ammo that we use has a great bearing on what effects these weapons have.
And besides a little bit of extra range is always useful |

they are a H&K G7, more like a machine pistol, than anything, else, very compact and small, but has option of slide out stock, for longer range work.Good for concealment I suppose.

Extremely light and comfortable, even the sound is unique - it sounds like a cross between a smg and a rifle, personally like a very loud staple gun!

Reading a few of the posts a bit of kit does spring to mind, its the BT MP9 / TP9 (MP9 has select fire, TP is semi only).
This 'machine pistol' has been out for 2.5 years and has done its rounds here with the civilian IPSC crowd and is in service with a few of the Police depts. in various capacities having swapped their HKMP5K's for this. We looked at this as an additional training tool, but after testing we felt it was a bit too small and has a few 'known' mechanical issues that would not stand the time over a few training sessions, though we heard that Brugger Thomet had ironed this out last year and it is now a top performer. Note: We put 1000+ rounds through during the test session and no problems, no stoppages and not much overheating. Its a 9mm, comes with the normal weaver mounts, very compact, ultra light and reasonable accurate out to 50m. If you plan to do a little shooting before going out to dinner make sure you check your face in a mirror for carbon as your face is right next to the ejection port (first hand experience speaking and definitely on par with the old 'boot polish on your susat ' trick.
