Fair enough Hawk, what works for you. However, as the OP was asking about UK Police Firearms Training, and I was a National Instructor for nearly 20 years I have a little idea of the problems he may encounter.

If you are right handed mate, are you locking both of your arms out to the front, or just your right arm. Meaning right arm is locked but the left is bent slightly, this could be your problem. Next time you shoot remember lock both arms to the front, keeping an eye on that bent arm, this could be causing you to shoot low and left.
good luck |

Can we assume that the weapon is in correct working order ie - fitted correctly and working correctly. I know a lot of dropped shots from a long weapon is caused by loose fitting TMH or pistol grip and not the grip and stance of the user. I'm sure that due to the nature of the training the armourer takes maintenence very seriously but they may be very worn training weapons and not for operational use.
Just a thought but it seems everyone is pointing towards the user. Has another weapon been used to compare? I use to love being coached on marksmanship and range work. Great fun and a great feeling when you start getting it right and it all finally clicks. Walks Last edited by Walks99; 07-05-2009 at 03:19 PM.. Reason: Pants at spelling! |

yes, but we are talking no professional! we are talking about someone that need to zero in..and start all over again..
The police and military forces around the world put a white sticker on the target and stand max 2 meters away and just go crazy..the guy need to get his aim right..then we move into other things.. If he cant hit the target you are saying he should not use his sight? and just shout at a blured / grey target and just hope he will be acurate? The important factor is to have him hit the same spot over and over again just to make sure he is comfortable with the weapon and can point and shoot in the same direction, when this is fixed other things will be easy hawk |

Rozzer, just relax, your anticipating the shot, this is causing your POI down from POA, also your applying too much finger on the trigger, just use your tip, feel the first pressure, wait, then press, follow through and reset (keep the trigger pressed then slowly bring forward to the reset). Dont just 'pull the trigger slowly' .... you gotta feel everything tightening up and that first pressure before you unleash your round with a positive gentle press, the only thing moving at that precise 100th second is the trigger finger and the trigger.
Most importantly believe in yourself, dont focus on the problem just let it ride, your instructor should give you the input to help you progress through the the learning curve . Slow is Smooth ....... Smooth is FAST |

Hi Rozza
1st of all: dry drills. The position of your finger mostly depends on the size of it, up to you to feel comfy with the way you hold your Glock. You gently PULL the trigger: you'll feel 2 levels of resistance until you reach the last one, just before the actual firing. At this very moment you're ready to fire (mechanically speaking), aiming will be no more than 2 seconds while SQUEEZING the trigger AND the grip at the same time in order to compensate and slightly pulling the weapon toward -your chest if you use both hands, -or your shoulder if you use 1 hand, no matter right or left, this aims to reduce the twisting effect on the trigger. I know it's not cristal clear, excuse my french... |

In my experience, you are probably pre empting the recoil and as your instructor says you are pulling the trigger instead of squeezing it, my advise would be control your breathing (2 deap breaths and then hold your breath halfway during the breathing out phase of the 3rd breath), then squeeze the trigger, the bang almost needs to be a surprise, the more experienced you become youll no longer need to do this as muscle memory will take over.
Hope im not teaching you to suck eggs, but i used to see a lot of this when training people that werent used to fire arms. Hope this helps. "YOU CAN TAKE A HORSE TO WATER, BUT YOU CANT MAKE IT DRINK........UNLESS YOU SUCK REAL HARD THROUGH ITS ARSE" |

Back in the army when i was doing my The Carpati .32, a Walther PPK like pistol training we were using this method: Put a 2 pounds coin onto the front sight and try to press the trigger as swiftly as possible without dropping the coin.Exercize until you are able to do it without droping the coin. Now ,compared with Glock ,Carpati is a bitch to fire with and if you master this technique i am sure your shooting we`ll improuve a ,lot Cheers! |
