Hello Gents,

Just started my ARV course this week. The first week of the course is all Glock 17 SLP. Apart from having the sorest hands in the world I have another problem that is getting right on my nerves. I keep hitting the target low and to the left. I always hit the target but not directly where im aiming it! (4 - 8inch down, 2 - 4 inch left)

My instructor states that this is probably me snatching the trigger a little. I have tried pulling the trigger as lightly as I can but still seem to be having the same trouble. Does anyone have any advice or 'tricks' for solving this problem or will it come naturally?

I'm probably being a little hard on myself, its only the second day of my course but I hate not being able to do things properly. Ive probably stuck about 4 - 500 rounds down range today, should I have sorted this problem after this amount of shooting?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ta

Rozza

I would suggest you are using too much of your finger on the trigger, try using just the fingertip, I was doing the same thing with a Glock quite recently after using a HK USP. Give it a go, it worked for me mate.

Try extending the fore finger of your left hand (I assume you are right handed and not a flid that should be spanked to death) along the side of the body of the pistol, this should support your aim and help prevent a snatch. Before you fire both fore fingers should mirror each other before you drop the right finger into the trigger area to go bang bang.

Basically your left hand isnt supporting the weapon enough and with the pressure of pulling the trigger you are dipping. Try a few holds but I think the finger extended one may help you.

Being plod you could always throw your helmet at the target should this tip fail lol

Make sure you are not tilting the weapon slightly to left in your hand.
Try to get a solid grip, all the way to back of your palm, like gripping a hammer or some other solid object.

Do some dry runs to get a good feel. Take the weapon in your left hand and semi-slam it to your right hand, then take a firm grip. Your right hand ( palm ) should be flat, like ready to greet someone or pointing a direction with your fingers straight together, then grip the weapon firmly. Make sure it is not " Twisting " slightly to left.
I hope you get my point.

If you hit low, try to aligne the 3 dots, in a way that the center dot is covering ( on ) the target.
Ask your instructor if it is possible to fire some 10 rds from 5-7 m. You can see your impacts and adjust. Some Glocks just shoot lower than others. When you KNOW you are shooting low, you can adjust with your aim.

Hope this will help.

Too much Finger.......Possibly....you should only have the first section of your digit on the trigger...and make sure the pull is even and relaxed....

What stance are they teaching? Weaver or Isocilies? What are you using?

I think this may be due to the sight picture you have...I do not think that it is correct....What is your grouping like?

PM me an I will run through some of the stuff with you.

Regards

Hawker.

Ha ha ha!! Nice one CPmedic!! Can't believe they ever let the bloody rozzers progress past the whistle and truncheon personally!!
Seriously though, good point about the grip. Although right or left handed should be irrelevant, you need to learn to shoot ambidextrously.

Never adjust your aim on your POLICE shoots mate...that will get you in the **IT with the instructors.

Tape your hands with ZINc OXIDE tape. That should Help a little.

alejandro will become famous soon enough
Oi mate, fire it like a rifle, wrap the joint on your index finger that's closet to your finger tip around the trigger, then squeeze and hold. It's what works for me, I use to have the same problem, I always fired DA/SA with Beretta M9's and Sig P226's.

Best of Luck

Hawker, I understand if you prefer not to answer this question but why can't you adjust your aim?
