Pistolero is on a distinguished road
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8321302.stm

The Met decided to mount hi-viz armed patrols of trouble spots, where there has been a prolific rise in the criminal use of firearms. Suddenly, the `usual suspects`, that group of ill informed, ignorant, publicity seeking politicians jump on the bandwagon, claiming loss of civil liberties, escalation in confrontations and all sorts of nonsensicle crap.

Even the Editor of `Police Review` raised that old chesnut `If the police carry more guns, criminals will too`

That one has been doing the rounds for years. Obviously, the criminal fraternity has`nt been party to that theory, since they`ve gone ahead, over the last decade, and escalated their own use of firearms, without waiting for the police to catch up.

A Ms Macartney of the London Assembley was worried that the `routine` arming of police in designated areas would increase the number of firearms `on the streets`. My suggestion to her was to withdraw the use of firearms by the police, thus drastically reducing said firearms. Only criminals would be allowed to carry.

Her comments were no doubt made from the warmth and safety of her plush office in the sure knowledge she would never have to face an armed offender.

I thought they had stopped this now due to a public outcry. I see no problem with armed Police patroling, they do it anyway in vehicles, just because old Betty collecting her pension doesn't see it does not mean they are not there. For christ sake the military still work on our streets. I

Some folks just seem to live in the notion that everything is just fine. Time to wake up and smell the coffee i say. I now live in the Philippines, where even your local 7/11 store has an armed guard on it.
I personally say bring back the right to have a hand gun, and the right to carry it ( i.e in your vehicle) I remember reading about a few states in the USA where you could carry a concealed hand gun. Strangely enough crime went down because the bad guys did not know if the blue rinse brigade are not carrying some more than a pack of Werthers Originals.

i dont see that happening in all honesty, there have been multiple petitions and they have all falled onto deaf ears

besides the right to carry a firearm in the UK for personal protection was outlawed in the late 40/early 50 i believe

i was working in a bowling alley (family entertainment center) and a collegue and myself were on a walkabout we got to the arcades he said pointing to the mini laser G36 on the ghost squad game saying "The day im issued one of these to do this door job im getting out!"

the only changes to UK firearm laws would be increased restriction on licensed owners like myself

Rapier i hear ya, i know it will not be lawful in our life times, but something is going to give. And when it does i would not want to be a copper then. I would not like it to be like the states where you can have a 50 cal browning, why you would want one in the first place is beyond me but you can.

Be safe Adrian.
