does anyone know how long it is before you find out if you have passed the initial sifting phase to join west mids police.

I joined Beds Police in 2005, whole process took 2 and a half years.
i recently resigned due to sheer amount of paperwork along with the fact that human rights stop you doing your job properly.

How long is a piece of string.. it depends on force to force, how organised and decent they are.. but usually expect to find out in 2-4weeks.

Don't know if you know how tricky the app procedure is now, but most ppl fail first time round. The time i applied and passed they had 4'000 applications... If you do have trouble, there's a couple of good police sites around that can help you out, also with the centrex centre. PM me for details - the intotheblue courses are also v highly rated by most who go on them...

Our force states that it will be a month from recieving your application form to informing you that it has passed the papersift.

The entire process will vary massively, but 12months is not uncommon. Our new recruits are being told it could be upto 18months from start to finish.

Ive been waiting since December to find out if ive passed paper sift for West-mids. Apparently there a nightmare at admin. Ive been ringing up constantly to find out whats happening but to no avail. Hope you have better luck with yours mate.

Guys several forces have got into recruiting difficulties at the end of the financial year, mainly due to the influx of PCSO's into real Police jobs. I know a couple have put the brakes on the recruiting process waiting for the new financial year. You may find now that April has come things start moving quicker - then again this is the Police and if you think it is going to be fast and efficient you're applying for the wrong job !

Personally I do not know why anyone wants to join the police today, the job is going down the drain and is full of compete tossers, who are only intrested in getting their next promotion or dropping some poor sod in it. If you like working your arse off for some dickheads, getting nothing but a stressed out, dealing with the spineless CPS knobjockers and spending all your time sat in a station looking at endless pointless emails, crime complaints from Chavs, listening to senior officers giving you endless shit sandwiches then crack on. You are surely going to find out quickly what a bad life choice you have made. Do yourselves a favour rip up that application form and get a real job!
