Default Some Questions On ARV's

in july i begin my day 1 interview to become a PCSO, my long term goal is to become part of the ARV crews. what criteria must you fulfill before applying to become part of the ARV crews around london? i'm looking at about 3 years till i become a standard Police officer, 1 year PCSO and 2 years probation as an officer, so after them 2 years probation am i able to apply or is there a special criteria?

also i have one more question off the topic above, but please answer the above question. i'm 20 very young but remember the Iranian embassy hostage crisis in 1980, the S.A.S dealt with that situation but what if a similar situation happened this day and age in London. would responsibility fall down to CO19 and and SO14 officers or would SAS still be put in charge ?

For ARV's in London you are looking at a 5 to 6 year minimum service as a police officer. You will have to evidence good decision making and varied experience of confrontational policing.

With regards to terrorism situations CO19 would deal with 99% of situations now for the UK.

Don't spend too long as a PCSO.. you'll get taught everything you've learnt again in your PC training, and believe me, it's painfull enough the first time round! Plus it's time as a cop that will count for everything later on, PCSO time won't help and tbh in some ppls eyes is actually a negative thing..

If you need a hand with your app, just give me a shout.

oh believe me i do not want to be a PCSO, but the way the Met work now, its a step all wannabe officers will need to take, 1 year PCSO then u can apply for a PC. and i got help for my application from a SGT. of Hertfodshire Police i done it 7 months ago and im going for my day 1 at Hendon in July

I fully agree with the comments made by CO19, You will be looking at 5 to 6 years service in the Met before you would be considered for such a Specialised Job. The selection process will be stringent, and the Competition fierce for places on the ARV Crews. Being an AFO does not suit everybody, the long hours and lack of Social life can be a Killer on relationships. However If it something you want to set your sights on for the future Go for it. I wish you all the best for your Interview, and for your future in the Police Service

Bit of a tangent, but CO19, just wondering, when you say CO19 would deal with 99% of jobs; what is it that they wouldn't deal with? and the who would .. would it be SF again and why? Just for curiosity so if you feel the answer would breach sec regs then feel free to tell me to STFU..

STFU....LOL..not seen that before; funny though.

Maybe this question can be answered another time and place and not in this forum.

Good luck.

Sorry but I disagree.

1) There are not enough C019 officers - they would be spread too thinly

2) CO19 can only be involved in a cross-border operation with the authority of the local Chief Constable or by direct involvement of the Home Secretary. They may be invited by the CC if their TFU is not equiped to deal with a specific operation.

3) Unlike S013, CO19 do not have to be contacted in the event of a terrorism incident.

Just to clarify, I have been involved in several anti-terrorism incidents including Gatwick Airport, Crawley and the Jameah Islamiyah school and don't remember seeing the boys in navy blue trousers
