Joining the old UKAEA Constabulary (now CNC) has always been something that has been in the back of my mind, but I came to know about them after I had started working, and every now and then when I start to think about making the move it seems they are aren't recruiting.
I keep checking their website; but was wondering if anyone had any exp of working for them, whats the work and training realy like, and do they recruit much or is it a dead man's shoes situation..... Also as a footnote; what are the eyesight standards (not outlined on the website) Thanks.... |

I hear they might be recruiting later this summer; does anyone know if this is true, there is no update on their recruiting web page as yet?
Many thanks, Chris |

Rupert...the UKAEA Constabulary (CNC) is going through some distinct change at the present time...with the presence of a new 'Headshed' (and I mean that in every sense of the word for those who understand) .... you may just have to be very patient.
The wait will be worthwhile trust me... I have worked with this crew for years and they are a great bunch with some very interesting projects... |

Do you know how easy/poss it might be to transfer from BTP or MOD Police. Just thinking if they (CNC) are not going to be looking for a year or so I might be better making a start with either of the above; I'm aware of the 2 year probation period, which obviously I would have to do at CNC; but could I transfer out of MOD/BTP before my 2 years was up and start afresh at CNC, would it be worth doing or more hastle than its worth? Thanks, |

Sorry Rupert.. I have absolutely no idea mate...but I'll tell you something...
I had a good mate (Ex-Para) who joined the BTP and absolutley loved it, unfortunately he died on duty some years ago operating undercover... I understand that BTP conduct some pretty interesting and effective front-line Ops...I think that my point is...that if you follow that line of enquiry, you may not find the need to transfer. Also...it is important to realise that the UKAEA or whatever they wish to call themselves are not short 'ever' of applicants? |

One question? Why do you want to join the CNC Police?
Undoubtedly they are very well financed and yes, have good training. However, operationally speaking they are not very active at all. In 2006, in all the sites they covered they had less than 100 recorded crimes. Additionally, although the marine escort group do get involved in transportation of escort to an from Japan, this is very rare and anyhow before you can get in you have to do your mandatory 2 year probation. CNC also participate in SWAT competitions with US Law enforecement however, again, this only occurs once or twice a year. CNC also hold annual war game with Royal Marines as do the MOD police marine escort group however this is held on an annual basis only. What I am trying to say is that you are not going to see or deal with a great deal, hence your operational experience will suffer. To answer your second question...you can only transfer to CNC police or MOD police from Home Officer forces. If you join either CNC or MOD and then decided to transfer to say the MET or BTP then you will have to undertake your 2 year probationary period from scratch...this is partly because your warrant powers change slightly and partly because it is widely recognised that MOD and CNC do not offer officers enough incidents to succesfully deal with the wide array of incidents which occur everyday in cities. Having said all this by either joining MOD or CNC police forces you obtain a dv clearance and a good initial AFO training course. Depends where you want to go with it all really. Certain CNC officers also get sea survival training, naval cannon courses and other courses normally open only to military. Hope this helps, Ciao Invictus13 |
