It can include managing cp, surveillance, TSCM, security audits, BCM, forensic IT, business intelligence, investigations, training, K&R response, security advisor and crisis management.
Being ex police/military assist in some of your thought processes in this particular arena as long as you didn't get institutionalised and you can draw on commercial and life experience also. Set yourself targets both career wise and financially and if you don't ask you don't get is my advice. |

Family is the draw back of this industry mate....
Having said that it is a drawback of any career ! The rate of divorce in the police, military and private security (overseas) sectors is unfortunately high. If the police is your chosen career path then heed the words of Moomin and be realistic ... I would like to be earning a further 50K this year ... but realistically it isnt going to happen. Earning 40K in 4 yrs of police service is a little unrealistic even with promotion. It was very likely in the RUC pre ceasefire as Overtime was through the roof but no longer. |

The job has changed in ten years, most guys i joined up with hate it and are waiting to retire. I am currently in a specialist role, so money is good but that is all, the politics is terrible and their are loadsa of spineless tossers running the show. It could be different but the home office is in charge of all the scorecard detection spin bullshit!

may I ask why are you looking for £40k at your age. I know we'd all like to earn loads more but it's not always possible straight out of education.
Most of the people I work with also hate the job these days as there's so much placed on paperwork and red tape. Think hard and long about it!! |
