MonkeyNuts is on a distinguished road
Morning ladies and gents,

This is my first posting on your site so i'll introduce myself properly…. Me - Ex Army (RGJ) 4 years, on leaving the forces I worked for a private investigations company for a while in the south east then moved on to Immigration detention & thePrison Service and I am currently working with the UKBA Enforcement teams which is interesting stuff but the red tape plus senoir management are shite so the reason for my post is I am contemplating joining the TVP / MET or CNC. I have been reading some of the previous posts on the training, benefits etc… what I am wondering is, what are the real possibilities of moving into / onto instructor training? (after probation). I am currently an instructor in Control & Restraint trained by the National Tactical Response Group, I have recently completed some training in Ryton with a NPIA instructor and even though the physical syllabus is different, the theory of law, conflict management etc is very similar as are the teaching methods. Is previous experience recognised within the police?

Many thanks

MonkeyNuts out…

don't know about it being the wrong place....... think there are many who could use a few sessions at AA, and i'm not talking about the breakdown service either.

Hope you find the site useful, but stay away from chat...... scary things go on in there that could turn a man to drink, sorry no it's a very informative area where many things work related are discussed and where there is a wealth of information

Welcome

Last month Met was recruiting for OST trainer (officer safety trainer) on their recruitment website so check just incase its still there, you might be lucky....

Good luck and see you around

Hi MonkeyNuts,

Welcome to the site and i'm sure there will be plenty of people that will point you in the right direction.

Remenber the grass is not always greener on the other side, if you are getting pissed off with the PC brigade, all the police forces have to deal with the same on every issue mate.

All the best mate.

Very well said Yoda.

Senior management (majority) always looks at things differently than employees. You need to bare this in mind.

I agree with alot you guys are saying, yes i understand that senoir management have a completley different out look and role to us mere mortals, but my current situation is... well.. a joke... I am in middle management and i get the brown stuff from all angles, fine cause thats what i get paid for, but new shift pattens have been implemented and they are bad... i mean real bad... I curently work with two seconded coppers and they agree that they are the worst theyy have seen.... Don't get me wrong, i wil work day and night to get the job done but at the moment i really want to move on.

I was put of a few years back when i was still in the forces, i spoke to a Inspector in the met, he asked what i would be interested in and i replied firearms / tcg / tsu . . diplomatic peotection etc.. and the response i got... he just laughed down the phone, in his eyes i was another 'gun ho; squaddie.... Well now i think it is time to jump ship and see what happens.... Cheers for the advice and comments guys,

MonkeyNuts out....

Monkeynuts, hello mate, I'm a fellow newbie on here. I can tell you for a fact that the Met won't recognise jack sh*t in the way of previous experience or skills. I know lads who've come from HMP as instructors in C&R/Tornado the whole 9 yards but none of their training was recognised. Similarly skills I took with me to the Met, from previous military and policing roles, were also decided to be worthless. A lot of newbies from the forces are also shocked to learn that none of their training is recognised. I'm not sure about county forces, I think they're a little more amenable to taking on transferable skills. With the Met its either the Met way or the highway!

Overall the job is alright mate, its like everything else, but I'm not sure I'd be considering joining as a bobby if being a trainer was my ultimate goal. The job hires civvy OST trainers, so take a look at that.

armedblagger,

Cheers for the insight mate... I had an inkling as a couple of chaps i worked with, alsoTornado/instructor etc, moved up north and joined the 'job' and their skills were not taking into account either. I was hoping the Met would be different, due to the huge size, but to be fair it does not surprise me.... I suppose they want all staff trained the Met way... Which is fine, i just want to be the one doing it haha...

In my experiance all different forces / services think they are the bee's knees compared to others...One infantry reg thinks its better than another, Prison Service better than Police, Police better than Army... it goes on, which is not always a bad thing as a bit of healthy competition and pride in you're own unit / force is a good thing.

I have been looking at the Met website everyday and at the moment its First Aid trainers they want.. I could stay put and keep teaching which is a great little number but its the job i dislike...edit... management i dislike... and joining the 'job' is something i have thought about and been a keen bean in doing since my first real encounter back in NI with the PSNI chaps. Its not all about just training, moving around in a secure job with so much variety is really appealing.. can you still transfer or add on time served forces pension? Something i heard years ago.

Cheers.
