I'm sorry if I annoy some people with my naivety in the following post!
I have just been reading through some of the topics on here and a particular post caught my eye. It was how to get into Armed Response and that it took several years of experaince working in plain clothes etc. It is a area that interests me if I do get in the police and I presumed like most of the other specialisations you simply applied after the 2 year probation. My question is- what is the best way to get into Armed Response? |

What I meant was to many people get accepted into Armed Response stright after the two year probation? I mean I could join at 23 and apply at 25, do they want more experaince of police other than just response work? |

9091, why armed response with the Met? Have you looked at the MOD Pol, about 70% (I think) of staff are AFO's and after 2year probation further specialisations are poss, likewise with CNC (UKAEA Constabulary) who are all AFO trained.
Worth a look at their websites if tachtical firearms is the route that is of interest to you. These suggestions are no slight on Met Pol, just other options. |

My question is along the same lines... maybe answers to my questions will help original poster?
I am a recent ex-marine, and now my goal is armed police, preferably MET as they have the most armed units with plenty of differing roles to choose from, seemingly giving the greatest chance of reaching an armed unit. I applied for Northamptonshire police earlier this year and didnt make the paper sift (feedback basically said I had "underperformed" in the respect for race and diversity question... yeah cheers, guess serving in middle east counts for little, should've been a uni bum so I wouldn't need to fill answer the questions... go figure!) I since applied for MoD police, with some new touchy feely cuddly dits about saving some "ethnic minority" and hey presto, passed the paper sift with a positive response 2 days after applying!! I have two questions... Can I directly transfer from MoD police to civvie police? (start from scratch, probationary period?) Idea being, it seems quicker to get a reply and possibly get into MoD police, so could I do my probation in MoD then transfer to a civil force without repeating 24mnths probation? Can I apply for civvie police while I have an application in progress for MoD police? (I know you can only apply for one police force at a time, but seeing as MoD police isn't on the police regional map... does it count?) I'm 24... 2yrs probation... approx 27... should be an adequate age to apply for AR? "7yrs" seems excessive.

Yes, while applied for civvi you can still apply for MOD as they are national force.
