Rosie will become famous soon enough
Guys,

Just received the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners manuals and reading materials (UK Version).

Prior to starting the reading and exam preparation - are there any useful tips / advice from any CFE's out there?

Cheers

Rosie,

I think that is a no, however, I am interested in the course. How is it going? How much did it cost? Who is the provider? Where can it lead to?

Kind regards

Chris

done and dusted, it is a self study course via www.acfe.com

unless you are investigations orientated and have at least a loss prevention / internal compliance / investigators role it may not get you very far. Aside from the financial aspects a majority of the other materials was known from a previous life.

Good course but only worth doing if you can get the use out of it.

Thanks for the link.

My girlfriend doesn't come from an investigative background, but has worked in Banks/Finance for years and is interested in working in Fraud Investigation.

I'll show her this.

Hi Conwy & Morky,

Rosie is right in saying that you need to have an Investigation background so traning could be effective and helps you to progress further in career.

Or, as normal and like everybody start from the bottom, PM me if you need any advise on this i.e. Where to start etc

A good website (not the only one) for jobs and training www.investigativerecruitment.co.uk

Hope it helps a bit

DH

Invictus13 is on a distinguished road
Rosie,

I'm looking to do the CFE as well. How long did the studying in preparation for the exam take you and how well structured was the material for self-study?

Thx

According to the ACFE spending:
2 hours per week will take 6 months
4 hours per week will take 3 months

To be honest I had it fully completed in about 3 - 4 weeks. Do not use this as a guideline though as I was lucky to have a familiarity with some of the material, have been continually engaged in one study or another for the last 6 years and have a two hour train commute for the laptop.

There are 2 other ex-UK coppers who started at the same time as me and are still plodding through the reading after 5 months.... (they actually have a life :-)

In all seriousness the text is good and having a PDF version of the manuals helped speed things up on the reading side. You need to answer 1250 (that is not a type-o) questions correctly and pass (85% of 125 questions) in 4 mock exams in law, criminology, investigations and finances / accounting before being able to take the final exam so it is some work.

I did find that they were strict on the entry requirements (minimum bachelors degree or verifiable investigative training in a police environment). It is not the cheapest of courses (about 1000 USD) not forgetting the recertification requirements. Basically if you can get a return on the investment through work or contacts it is worth it.

If I can help further just holla.
