Scab will become famous soon enough
I wonder how they intend to enforce licensing on this.

"That guy looks like he's on a surveillance"

One would hope that someone actively engaged in such activities does not look like they are on a surveillance; or are the sia intending to put countersurveillance into their enforcement officers job description..?

I'm a bit lost here if I understand correctly sia is telling training providers how much the price for their course is supposed to be? [£920]
Since when sia have the authority to regulate market prices, what if provider decides that his course costs is £900 or £1000?
And in my humble opinion, what can you possibly learn in 3 days, it will again depreciate any meaning of those NVQ lvl 3 quals.
Seriously they are not from this planet in the SIA.

Hi Marian,

This is part of what I put this on the ABI (Association of British Investigators) forum yesterday:

>>SNIP

How pathetic are the SIA?

They are asking us to pay £920.00 for a 3 day training course in order to for us to prove that we are COMPETENT in the 5 areas that they have suggested.

I have mentioned before, what is 3 days? Take out introductions, breaks, meals and assessment and you are left with 3.5 hours per subject. Are we meant to be competent after that, are the public going to be reassured?

And what about the cost? Absolutely disgusting! Where do they get their ideas from?

How is it that we (ISS Training Ltd) can run a logistically heavy course of 5 days duration, with 3 instructors, car hire, fuel, training venue and lunches for £750.00 per head and still make a small profit?

>>SNIP

Cheers

Peter

When is everyone going to get it !!!! Regulation is good in the long run, it keeps standards high,SIA is bad and just another way of taxing people who have probably been doing various security jobs for 20 plus years !!!!!!

Then I have a question, as it is lvl3 NVQ qual which they require will they respect qualifications gained by people so far from other lvl3 NVQ courses like yours for example?
I just came back from my CP course and Surveillance at your place [I live nearby] was next course on my list to do, and I'm bit counfused now what to do. I'd rather take a decent course from company with good reputation than some sia 3day f**k knows what.

Hi Marian,

I have asked the same question to Peter via pm, but I know its probably not an easy question to answer at the stage?

I know... Should we do the course or wait for the guidlines via SIA?

DH, Marian,

A 3 day course in 2010 will get you an sia licence - after learning about 5 complex subjects in 3.5 hours each - that's all. The course has not yet been designed so don't hold your breath.

A 5 or 10 day course in Surveillance will teach you how to do surveillance, improve your skill set and hopefuly make you more employable.

Would you employ someone to do surveilacne having attended a 3 day PI course, of which 3.5 hours is surveillance? There's your answer.

The SIA so far have said that it is unlikely that any previous experience will be taken into account. The 'old school' former policemenn in the PI industry are not too happy with having to sit a 3 day course either, even those that have a Level 3 in investgation or served 50,000 years in the CID, SOCA or B&Q.

The thing is, it is still a few years away and anything can change......

Peter
