Thanks for the info Peter, was just confused as usual with sia and its ways, so now we will have to spend significant amount of money twice,
first time to gain the real skills, and then again to get a piece of sh... oups I ment a piece of plastic card from sia. Always good news from SIA front. Thanks again, and I will be in contact with you as soon as I will gather the founds for course ![]() Quote:

I would like to suggest that before we all try to guess what the sia will require for PI and PA licensing, we wait until the Specification for Core Competency is published. It might have some surprises for those 'prophets of doom'. The SIA does not tell training providers what to charge for their courses, that is up to the provider. Also, the SIA does not design any courses, that is the responsibility of the training provider after taking account of the qualification requirements. The qualifications for licensing are developed by awarding bodies (working with sector practitioners), who have to comply with the SIA Specification. If anyone wants to get involved in developing training or know more about the qualification, a good place to start is any of the awarding bodies who are thinking about offering a qualification for licensing PIs and PAs. Look on the SIA website for potential Awarding Body contact details.

Hello Alan,
I am sure you are aware that it was the sia who has suggested £920.00 in their recent revelation and you are right it is up to the training provider and so I can see a price war coming in between them - all to the benefit of the punter. I think the SIA will take the core competencies from the NOS published by Skills For Security (because they are not written anywhere else) and they will be very skimpy if they are to be the back bone of a 3 day course. Some are saying it may be that you don't have to attend the course and you can go straight to the assessment. Some are also saying there are a few years yet and if Labour don't get in next time around the whole concept could be scrapped. Peter |

What are your thoughts on Police Detectives who can demonstrate and show certification that they are fully qualified in PEACE,INVESTIGATIONS,SURVEILLANCE,SPECIALIST INTERVIEWING,SPECIALIST INVESTIGATOR and report writing, would the S.I.A still expect you to attend a 3 day course to qualify ?

Personally I don't think that anyone one with Police training or experience should undergo the 3 days training. Unless they used to work for SOCA - explanation below..
![]() I think the sia are coming to terms that this police training & experience should be treated as 'accredited prior learning' and thus will possibly give an option just to sit the assessment / test without the training. That in itself may be an insult to some, but the SIA is being led by advisors who are former policemen / women who are up for it... They obviously know of former colleagues in the private sector who are totally bone (you know the phrase, 'How come Smudge has got a job working for ABC Investigations? He was a total nobber when I knew him..!' The SIA have also taken a lot of advice from SOCA in their Regulatory Impact Assessment (take a look at the recent SIA document on licensing, (attached below). They are partly responsible for revving up the SIA as they have more or less said that the PI industry is brimming with criminals and the world will end if the industry is not licensed, competent and brought into line. To that end, if anyone from SOCA is reading this, and looking to enter the private sector, don't ask us for a job until you have done your 3 day course in private investigation - your idea, so whistle! I know the SIA are being rallied by the likes of the Association of British Investigators and other sector organisations so that they can get it right (or as near as they can) at the moment. The whole thing is a slow moving tide but it keeps changing, so I wouldn't panic. If you have any questions, address them to Tony Holyland who is the SIA man in this respect. His email address is tony.holyland@the-<a href="http://ww...sia</a>.org.uk and you may get a response just before you go out on the evening security shift at the 2012 olympics. Peter |
