Certificate in Terrorism? Probably obtained from one of the many madrasas on the PAK/AFG border? Or some of the less salubrious mosques in N London?

Seriously - have a look at CSTPV Home

They are very well regarded and offer distance learning - with, I think, a short residential portion. Best speaking to them direct.

any university will do distant learning, they send course work out to you, worldwide.. plenty off courses to choose, but ask yourself where you want to be in 5 years time, then you will know which course you want..

Tobes,

Which one would do you suggest? You are almost to successfully complete the Leicester's MSC in Security and Risk management, how it was? Could you please give us time of study, difficulties, some tips and advice? would you recommend it to a non U.K. citizen ? Are you aware in which way has helped prevoious students? Don't you think that the St Andrew's degree in terrorism is more important than the Leicester one considering that recruiters look at the prestige of Univerisity also and not only at the level of study?
Thanks

M

The St. Andrews certificate is not quite a full academic qualification and would not count as a qualifyer for a vacancy requring degree level education. The subject relevance should also be considered as the SRM may be more applicable to a Sec Mgt role than a specifc such as terrorism studies. I do understand the appeal of the St. Andrews course and have it pencilled in myself as a "nice to do". Leicester (as a full academic qualifyer) however was a "must do" for career progression.

I consider any verifiable academic attainment as a bonus but only of real value in recruiting when it is complemented by a firm base of practical, verifiable and relevant experience. Probably stating the obvious but an academic qualification is no indication that a candidate can do the actual job.

I have linked a thread from last year that covered some of the topic and named quite a few of the options available.

Security Management Qualifications?

Good luck with whichever path you choose, but to echo Tobes on this, you had better decide where you want to go first of all....

Rosie,

many thanks for your advices. I really apprecite them. From what I was able to understand you suggested with no hesitation the Leicester Msc in security and Risk Management.
I was also attracted by this one, because many colleagues of mine, in Italy are studying it, but in the same way others have made different choices, attending The King's college and others U.K. prestigious Univeristies, which their courses perhaps I do not consider as useful as the Leicester's degree.
Regarding where I want to be in 5 years is unfortunately at the moment an answer that I am not capable to give me because really I do not know which could be my future perspectives and occasions. To whom you would suggest a Leicester MSc degree? To which career's path do you think it would be useful?
Sorry for the too many queries and thanks in advance for your wise reply

hi,

I am doing the Loughborough University MSc in Security and Risk Management.. I thought it was a good course, but it has not taught me anything i did not know already, some word terminology is different, but it is just the step between foot soldier and desk jockey... i would say it depends on what level you are approaching the course from and depth of knowledge you have will determine what you get from the course. My whole approach to the course is, i need thoses letters "MSc" to go to the next level in my career and maybe hopefully sit down with my present client and see if i can go global and boardroom level within his country/family's orginization. so really the course you choose should be based upon where you want to see yourself in 5 years time/20 years time retirement wise.. for me this qualification will enable me to speak the boardroom language and to approach it from a less aggresive "foot soldier" stance.. be more diplomatic ect ect. Choice of university did not even come into question, yes oxford/cambridge clicks.. but security wise i dont think university will make much difference... i think employers are looking for a mix of experience and management,

so my profile will read ""climbed through a tunnel of shit and came out smelling of roses"" i hope..

for non uk people, i would still believe the course is good for them as many global companies seek MSc managers, so where your mother dropped you out, should not have to much bearing on things... its your skill base and knowledge that the employers want.

I'm also very interested in the Leicester MSc. Any additional info anyone could give would be highly appreciated.
