I can only speak about the situation here in Norway, but I belive this job will have more challinges in the future than in the past. There are even easyer to get your hands on guns than it was only few years ago, and even than it was quite easy. More criminals are carrying them, and knifes are starting to get a lot more common again.

I grew up in the countryside, where rifles and knifes are seen as tools. It was common for kids to use knifes as a regular tool when playing after school, or even in the classroom. The problem nowdays is that the wrong people are bringing them for the wrong reasons when going out drinking at nights. Or even when looking for truble during daytime.

i guess I am from a country that is a bit spoiled when it comes to gangs and organized crime, but the last 10-15 years things has gotten noticebly worse. The problem is still not the organized gangs, that has disipline enough to not make any trouble that causes attention from the police or media, but the loonies that often has severe mental problems and just need a reason and the tools to rise hell.

With more security guards having to do more and more of the job the regular police and social service really aught to do, and the fact that most security guards has to learn that job the hard way, and not by lectures in a school with professional teachers, we are looking at a future with more challinges than ever before for our profession.

I am so pleased I have found someone from Oslo on this forum I have been there twice and now I am going to bore you and anyone else reading this posting! I have never had so much fun in my life. My mate and I met 55 girls on the first night and that was in the first pub we went in! It was called the Student or something like that. We then got invited to the opening of a new bar/club called the 'catwalk' (student bar turn right and head down the road),which you had to walk down or crawl down the catwalk as you went in. We then went to the night club owned by an ex Porn Star before going back to a party at our hotel (I think our hotel was called the Bentley just across the road from porn star club). We stayed for 2 weeks!

Now, to be honest it was very tame due to the fact that your drinking culture is a culture and not like the twats that get drunk in the UK. You have drinks at home before you go out (and you have a name for it, we just call it 'wetherspoons') and I saw little trouble. I did see the little drug dealers driving around but I believe your main problem comes from outside of your country and from a much hotter climate!
