OK you guys in the know.

I did my CP course in 1995 and have been on many tours including Algiers, Beirut,
Bosnia x 3 ,Iraq and Afghanistan. Mainly FCO and a couple of green tours.

Now to get my sia qual what do i need to do and how much will it cost? (bearing in mind I am unemployed). well, on a pension anyway.

Do I have to do a full course or is there a shortened one. Do I have to do another cp course?

As I prefer to work abroad is it worth getting one? I know Armorgroup require it for their Embassy contract, which seems strange to me as I have mainly been on FCO tours!
Failing that it will have to be convoy escorting, or does that require a SIA licence too?

regards

AJ

If you have been non operational for over 3 yrs i beleive you will have to do a full CP course, this is an sia requirement. A lot of companies are now insisting on the SIA badge, however some firms will consider you for hostile work based upon your obvious past experience. Hope this helps, speak to others here or contact training providers as the short APL course is also a possible for you ! good luck mate

You will just have to do the 3 day refresher and first aid! Cost about 500. Contact some of the leading training companies. Go for the cheapest. You have the necessary quals no need to do a full course.

AJ,

I was in exactly the same boat as you last year and can tell you that Dan D has got it spot on. I used Longmoor Group (LG) which was about £500. That might be one of the pricier qoutes you would get but, they are really onthe ball and willbe able toguide you through the whole process with minimum amount of fuss. You will also have to have your FAAW certificate (3 day cse cost approx £200) prior tp doing the 3 day refresher. Give LG a call and they will tell you exactly what documentary evidence you need to have to show the sia that you have done the job. Top Tip: Do all this stuff well in advance as I had to wait to get my docs/criminal record check from HM Forces

Regards

I know employees from Longmoor regularly post in this forum.

How much is the refresher course guys? How long? Where are you based?
