Hi hope this finds everyone out there fit and well
could anyone give me a bit of clear advice here ? I would like to apply for a sia licence, the only thing that is stopping me at the moment is that I live in France and would like to know if when I send of the paperwork will my French address be ok I'm getting one person telling me it will be ok and another saying you need a UK address ? (being a stingy Jock I do'nt want to lose the licence fee which has happend to some I know) I have done a CP course Ronin SA 2004 but looking to do another in April so the only thing holding me back is this question over my address. I hope this is'nt to stupid a question but the amount of different answers I've been getting I must admit I'm rather confused. Thanks in advace stay safe best regards Dave |

Have you tried emailing the sia and asking them? It might take a few weeks to get an answer but don't phone them it takes ages to get through?
If you have lived abroad at any time in the last 5 years it will take longer to process your licence |

Hey there,
The sia have an overseas licence application, you can use an OS address, mine is in OZ so No drama's with that. Everything else is the same as for everyone else's application, apart from you having to get a countersignatory for the photocopy of your passport, make sure they are a Police Officer or JP & put your unique Ref # on every bit of paper you send in. They do take a while, mine has been in since Oct 07. Check out there website Cheers More Beers |

As KS International said it is not a problem. I would register from your home address, registering from any other address will lead to confusion and delays. You have to state where you have lived for the past 5 years and also provide police checks in any country you have lived in for that period. If you used a UK address it would be noticed that you do not live in the UK by your passport and other checks.
Relax, after all you will probably have to wait 6 months for your licence anyway! |

For the DS license, you will need to be resident in the UK for 3 years prior to submitting your application, for security reasons. Mind you, this was about a year ago, so the sia might have changed the rules.

You only have to get evidence of a lack of criminal record if you have lived in a country for more than 6 months. If you lived somewhere for 5 months, dealt drugs, beat people up and eventually got deported or are awaiting extradition - you don't have to declare that at all
