Can anybody tell me why on sending your application form for a C.P licence, you dont have to send in evidence of your First Aid qualification?, as it always mentioned as a major condition of a licence being granted. Is there a database of people with the H.S.E FAW qualification that the S.I.A look at?,if not how do they know you have the relevant quals for the job?.Am asking this because after ringing the really helpfull and speedy!!!!!!!!!!! helpline, was informed you dont send your First Aid quals in.Does this not leave the system open to people getting a licence without the proper learning?,will be interested in any replies.

Doesn`t that mean that they have no way of knowing for sure that you have a First Aid qual before they agree to issue you with a licence?,every CP website,Training Provider states you will need this to get a badge/job, yet they dont check to see if you have this training!!!.

I don't know if this is the case with everyone but the training provider that i used verified my first aid training at the start of the course and we were told the CP certificates would not be issued to us without evidence of a relevant first aid qualification.

It is reletivaly easy to check out First Aid at Work Qualifications. On each certificate you will find a HSE registration number, for example 1234/08. This would mean the first aid provider was 1234 company registered with the HSE in 2008. All you need to do then is ask the HSE if this company is still registered (if I remember correctly the Manchester office deals with this) they can confirm if the company is legitimate and their address.
Then simple phone the company up and ask them if they have a record of this student gaining the qualification.
It doesn’t happen often but I have encountered a few forged certificates and sad to say a few unregistered companies over the years.

That is the case, but it would rely on the sia having those details and without the applicant proving the fact they have completed a first aid course, the SIA wouldn't have these details.

In effect there is no way the SIA can prove you have completed the training without a copy of your certificate.

I was under the impression that the CPO cert would not be granted withot the first aid qual. Weather you do it prior to your CP course or as part of it. I.e; if you have passed the CP course, got the qual, then you have obviously got the 1st aid qual also.

The onus is on the training provider to certify the 1st aid either as prior learning or part of their course; if the CP course is completed with a valid 1st aid ticket thats when you get the full CPO qualification alowing you to then you apply to the SIA.

(I think) Maybe a training provider can confirm or corect this?

My apologies Ladies & Gentlemen, I read the original post wrong. I thought the question was how you could validate a FAW certificate that was being presented by a student commencing a course. If the CP training provider is happy that a student has a valid FAW certificate, then I believe that as the CP training provider is already registered with the sia, it is only a question of ticking the relevant box on the licence application form to say that you have seen the FAW certificate. If you were a registered training company would you risk you SIA status for something as simple as seeing a certificate?
