Reasonable question hughie 79 and I have to admit that due to me not trawling the sia website due to the fact that I have absolutely no interest in that organisation whatsoever, I am unable to give you a definitive answer.
However, if I may say this? In my experience, which if I may add is fairly extensive DEBT is a personal or private issue or matter unless of course there are county court judgements involved. I would imagine that the answer you are looking for is probably contained somewhere within the license application? Again that is just a MAYBE because I have not completed one of these forms and never shall. Trust that this helps? Carl Dowd RTD Group |

As far as I remember - and I just have sent my renewal application - there are no questions regarding your financial status.
All you have to prove [or they have to find out] is if you have not commited any criminal offences, which can be very different, for example I know a girl that messed up something with her taxes which was qualified as benefit fraud and she cant renew her licence now. |

i think the only thing that prevents you being given a licence is a criminal conviction or prison term. BAnkruptcy may cause a problem possibly but if it is just basic debt issues then really shouldn't be an issue. i think they are more intrested in if you have been a bit naughty than wether you are solvent, although have noticed lately on job applications that some companies suddenly seem to want to know about your finances just for future refrence there.

i have now checked a few companies websites including the one i work for and a lot of them now ask about your finances, some state they check with credit refrence agency, so what is the point in paying money to get licenced only to get turned away by security companies after they credit check you. if being in debt is going to stop you from working with a security company should these checks not be included in the sia license.i would like to hear peoples views on this.
thanks for eveyone help |

Hughie you make a very relevant point mate and it sounds to me that this is an issue, if your information is correct that you need to run by an organisation like the Consumer Advice Bureau, an employment Lawyer or your local MP, MSP or AM (depending where you are based of course).
It is most likely that you will be fed with 'opinion' on here and it might be worth you conducting some more research and coming back to inform us, the forum members. I would certainly be interested in your findings because somewhere here, there may be a lesson for us all. I look forward to your response mate... A lot of security companies now use external reference checking companies to vet applicants- or they say they do at least- part of these reference checks include credit checking. From the employers point of view a guy who owes 10000 pounds is hardly the best guy to be trusted to guard a cash in transit van or something else expensive. While most people wouldn't steal to get themselves out of debt, there are some that will and as such employers wouldn't want to risk the problem.

Some good points and for those who have some knowledge of this subject then maybe any future WAGE ARRESTMENTS? may enter into the equation?
