The Forum is correct. Surveillance within all three of the services is limited to a select few special groups. SRR and SF have been mentioned as have the Int Corp & RMP. But this type of work is special to those groups and you would have to apply once on the inside and attend special qualification courses. But remember this work is in addition to your normal everyday work as a soldier and you do not do this work all the time.

If you want to work in surveillance then look no further than the security services websites. Mi5/6, who are always recruiting suitable candidates. No they are not the "007" Spys of the world, you only get that when your in and undertaken special selection, but there is a whole world of "Counter Terrorist" work being undertaken by Mi5 and they need staff.

Check it out, if that is your bag. Personally I can't think of a more mind numbing profession than sitting in a hide for hours on end, just waiting for 60 seconds of excitement. (You must get through a lot of books!)

All the level one Surveillance jobs in the police are tested by suitability assessments, mine lasted two days of practical testing skills etc. And then once passed that had interviews, prepare operational orders, presentations and have eyesight and hearing tests.
Once accepted I had to do various levels of courses especially driving I was already response driver and had to do the advanced course too, OP/foot/mobile surveillance with other courses too.
I did some training with Thames valley Police, thats were Rmp do some courses too.

I know of the SRR, special forces, but I was wondering does the Army have regiments or other units that do some sort of surveillance (as much info as possible). I know the marines have some sort of surveillance roles as I think that is what background Peter Jenkins comes from. However, I had considered a job in the army for a long time (possibly as an officer after doing my degree) working within Military Police and eventually Close Protection but now I have got a bit of background on Surveillance I really think it could be an option for myself.

With the army still in mind, I was wondering what possibilities I have. Thanks for your time
The first step is to pass your aosb and get through training, once there you will be able to take a realistic look at the Army, as they will of you and then you (they) can decide what type of Soldiering you would be best suitable for.

The 'Surveillance' list is numerous, apart from the 'usual' sneaky beaky stuff mentioned, certainly take a look at *elements of the Royal Artillery*, any of the infantry COP's, RE etc.

As baghdadbg mentioned, theres plenty of 'Surveillance' work ......
