Hi AMBA,

We've used the Track Stick and had very good accurate results with it. It even went for 18 days on two AAA batteries. The magnets are small but deceivingly powerful. It could be weatherproofed a bit better so a wrap in cling film did the trick.

Cheers

Peter

Hi Pete,

I have a Trackstick, I've yet to use it in anger though, does it need to see the sky? My one says it does, I've stuck it on the inside roof of my van and it's been fine one day and no results the next!! Any advice would be appreciated!!

Regards

Heno

Hi Heno,

Yes it does need to see the sky but there are parameters. Your device stuck under your roof is probably picking up 'bounced' or reflected signals through the windscreen and rear windows.

The GPS signals will travel through anything non ferrous, i.e wood, plastic, cloth, but not metal.

Inside the cabin of a vehicle it may receive signals through the windows but not the roof (unless it is a soft top). I have had mine in a glove box and it still works by receiving the signals through the windscreen.

If placed on the crash bar within the rear bumper (normally plastic these days), it should get a good accurate fix.

Every vehicle is different and in most cases you have to experiment.

In addition, you have to add in the 'urban factor'. Heavily built up areas will only let the satellites vertically above to be received whereas in a more open area more satellites will be picked up that are oblique to you and a more accurate fix given.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Peter

Aaaaahh I see! Cheers Peter, much appreciated, I'll mess around with it until I get it down pat.

I've been looking at another bit of kit, Q Track International traker available from Brickhouse Security, it's a real time tracker. I've emailed the company and they assure me it will work under a car, inside a car etc although it's best not to completely surround it in metal.
Once again, thanks for the advice.

Regards

Heno
