Hi Jackdiamonte

There is generally no link between the two, many Surveillance companies offer Process Serving as a sideline to their main area of work because they may have staff situated around different parts of the country which can be well placed to serve documents.

You will see that most, if not all Investigation agencies offering the service of Process Serving as they will have a good network of agents around the country to utilise.

For someone to serve documents they are required to be registered with the Information of Commissioners office & be registered under the DPA. Other than this I don't believe there are any other legal requirements, however there are also various useful courses relating to this particular service.

If you haven't had a look already, the UK PSA are the UK Process servers association www.uk-psa.org

Take care

Generally speaking the two are linked when Surveillance is used, often alongside other investigation methods, to correctly identify the current location of the subject in order that process can be served. More often in connection with bankruptcy and freezing of funds etc... these days than more common process.

Process serving can often lead to or be preceeded by asst tracing and other investigation that may include elements of surveillance.
