Hi all,
I'm in my final few months in the RAF Regiment.
I'm looking to get into survelliance either full or part time.
I've been in the regiment for 7 1/2 years, leaving due to wanting more stability, career enhancement and no more 6 month tours!
I've been looking into surveillance for a while now. I was succesful in getting to the final stages with a goverment survelliance vacancy. The taster I enjoyed immensely!
Since then i've not had much direction with which to follow.
I've no domestic surveillance qualifications, however due to my current role I have been operating in Iraq gather intelligence, op's, close target reccies etc.
I'm currently living in Northern Ireland and looking for some advice from anyone in the know!
I belive there is a surveillance training company who run the odd course in Northern Ireland, but i'm wondering what the potential outcome will be. I.e. if there is a call for this type of work.
I've also seen the police are now forming new counter terrorism units with surveillance roles. Most of these are open to serving police officers with the level one surveillance qualification. However i have just seen in quest magazine(a resettlement mag for the forces) that the Counter Terrorism units have a open day today for service personnel.
Does anyone know if they are going to be actively recruiting armed forces memebers in the near future.

I can't give you any advice but they are other members of the forum who will when they see your post. I'd just like to wish you the best of luck.

I myself, when I left the armed forces had a wife and child on the way, it certainly helps knowing what your going onto!

Go to the open day, entry is with your mod ID card, it is not open to the public. There may be other hings there you have not considered. Yes they are recruiting.

Hi there.
I didn't see the open day advertised until last night so I couldn't get there.
I've had a look at some of the force websites and they all seem to be recruiting police officers at the moment.
I presume they may be opening other positions and advertising them soon for ex forces etc??
I've seen one post and it's classed as police staff in leeds, so I emailed them for an application form- only snag being the closing date is tomorrow and the app can't be emailed! So i've missed out on that. I'll keep my eyes open for future jobs, good job I have a trade and a job lined up for the time being.
Next question is what do you think the best survelliance course to start with is??
Oh and CO19, any ideas on the other things at the the ctu show?

Start with a basic surveillance course Greymans conduct these by ex Specialist Operations an attached Interpol surveillance trainers. They have had very good feedback.

You will need to attend the event and assess things there and speak to everyone, is my advice. But you will have to sell yourself.

I saw it in the back of a resettlement magazine, there was a link to it from one of the police sites. Think it was the ACPO APCO, can't remember the exactly letters but i'm sure you know what I mean!

Entry is only with a current MOD or warrant card, that is what I do remember

Hiya..did you goto the open day in manchester?.....i know that several police foces are seeking ex military personnel.this new unit is nationwide.try looking in the wst mids,mnchester and yorkshire police websites...the met well thy are in a league on of thier own..i would no iam with them..cheers
