Hi All,

This whole "walter mitty" topic is really really sad, there seems that the security / martial arts world is filled with bullshiters, and who do we really believe anymore??

I work in security guard / doorman, i did a bit of karate as a kid, and ive done a Level 1 masterclass with matty evans & tony somers which are two of Geoff Thompsons top instructors.

I can vouch for them as they are great blokes with lots of skills and knowledge, also the other blokes on the course with me also had many skills from different backrounds, but my real point is i went on the course based on an advert in Martial arts illustrated, and i was lucky engough it was a great course, run by people who had REAL credentials, and skills.

How do us novices navigate our way round the martial arts / security world and try to learn new skills, go on REAL courses, run by REAL experts, with all these bullshiters in our midst.??

There are many magazines, many adverts, many guru's on martial arts / self protection, many security company's and their courses, obviously many of these are more than likely walts, but who can tell?? the walts that have been exposed by this forum and recently in the media are few, how many others are out there?? and how many punters have been taken for a ride by bullshiters running courses without being the REAL deal.??

Head of the I.B.A fake, Bob Spour has muay thai books out, many self protection dvd's, has run masterclass's, and at this point in time it looks as though he is a fake, where does it stop??

With a financial elite who have run the country into a recession they have seen coming for years, basically gambling our money away, a political elite spending our money on themselves, and the rest of us speding money on dvd's and courses that are not up to scratch, where do the lies end.??

Oh well rant over, got to go, seagal's on the blower, wants me to do some stunt work for him in Under Seige 3.

Mate thats life, unfortuanately. Bring money into any equation and the bullshitters will flock in their droves.

I have trained with many martial artist who were fantastic at what they do and didn't need to try and buff themselves up by faking S.F crudentials. Personally I begin to get suspicious when I hear them mention they were ex SF. Does anyone cook in the military, drive vehicles or run comms?
I know a guy who was shouting on the doors around central london that he was ex SF and he had done this and that, some people I know approached him with a lucrative deal to go to Iraq just after the regime was toppled - thats when it came out he was ex welsh guard - funny I haven't heard or seen him in a while!!!

Yep we have all met them....Lots of them still out there and bullshitting till they are blue in their face. As a rule they always usually tend to drop a clanger somewhere down the line and are then outed in public. There's a cracking group on FaceBook called 'Name & Shame Walter Mittys". I sugggest people join it and see and read some of these stories..amazing!
To be honest I feel sad for them....they amuse me...Generally sad individuals with meagre lifestyles who have probably never even held a loaded firearm let alone use one in anger...

There was one out here recently in the sand,ime told he has said he has completed a CP course and also said he completed a Psd course,the team was on a task and the order came in for a bubble to be put up he was lost and had no idea where or what he should do,so later that day whilst with the client he was told to go into a box formation he couldnt do it as he hasnt done a PSD course he was soon sent home and black booked here,ime told the guy was a Brit, Walter of a true kind stay safe Ram out

i come across other TSCM companies claiming all our staff are ex sf etc
i have a consultant works for me and he is defo ex sf (he knows f*#k all about TSCM
it seems to bring kudos for companies .
by the way do you think they ment was in special school and not forces

Sadly its just on of those things. Walters exist in all walks of life. I belive that most of the time people lie or brag to try impress others. Usualy the ones with the loudest mouths are the most full of it. As far as martial arts go i strongly recommend Paul Vunaks work he is very real and very relevent.
